Zaria Forman is a very young female artist who lives in Brooklyn, New York. The artists drawings are inspired by her mother’s fine art photography. In her childhood Zaria travelled a lot and had the chance to see beautiful landscapes. The artist is fascinated from the ever-changing sky and sea and wants to express this in her artworks.
Zaria draws landscapes that are affected by climate change like Antarctica, Greenland and the Maldives.
Zaria prefers to work with soft pastels and avoids to use the erasers. Instead of erasing, she works with her mistakes and loves the challenge of resolving them. She likes the simple process of her works that can easily get lost with tiny details.
When Zaria travels the world, she takes a lot of photographs and makes sketches. Then in her studio, she works out of her memory but also uses the photographs to create large-scale paintings. Zaria also works a lot with her hands and fingers. She likes to improvise during the process and adds a lot of pigments which she works with her palms and fingers. The act of drawing is for her like a meditation and she hopes that the viewer can share this moment of tranquillity and feel how small we are in confront with the powerful forces of nature.
The young artists paintings are not only beautiful, but they also have an important message. She wants to translate and illuminate the scientists warnings about the climate change. She thinks that thru her paintings she can convince people to protect the environment; and also, all the beautiful landscapes she paints.
When I first saw Zaira´s paintings, I thought that they were photographs. Then I red under the picture that it is a painting made with fingers instead of brushes or pencils. I was very impressed by that fact and wanted to know more about this artist. I think she is a very interesting person with a particular life story; that also wants to tell us something important with her paintings. In my opinion, her ideas are working very well and are contributing in a good way. I hope she can reach a lot of people with her message, so the world can change to a better place.
